This is such an amazing and easy dish, I love this in the winter. I got this recipe from cooks.com, I get all my recipes there, I hope you like it!

SMOKED POLISH SAUSAGE WITH CABBAGE,

SWEET POTATOES AND APPLE

1 can chicken broth

1 tbsp. prepared mustard

1 tsp. mustard seeds (optional)

1 lb. sweet potatoes, peeled, quartered, cut in 1/2 inch chunks

2/3 c. coarsely chopped onion

1 1/4 lbs. green cabbage, shredded coarse (6 packed c.)

1 lb. fully cooked smoked Polish sausage, diagonally cut in 1/2 inch thick slices

1 lg. Golden Delicious apple, quartered, cored and cut in 1/2 inch pieces

Stir chicken broth and mustard in deep 12 inch skillet until blended. Stir in mustard seeds. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add potatoes and onions, reduce heat to medium. Cover and cook about 5 minutes, shaking pan occasionally, until potatoes are almost tender.

Add cabbage and sausage. Cover and cook about 5 minutes longer, stirring once or twice, until potatoes are tender and cabbage is crisp-tender. Stir in apple. Cover and simmer 3 minutes until apple is crisp-tender. Good with rye bread and mustard.Cabbage and kielbasa recipe?
I make a sausage, beer and sauerkraut recipe in a slow cooker, but you can cook it in a dutch oven over a medium-low flame on the stovetop for a couple of hours.

1 - 20 oz. can of sauerkraut, rinsed

1 lb. kielbasa, cut up into 1-inch pieces

1 granny smith apple, cored and cut up into 1/2 inch chunks

1 - 12 oz. bottle of dark beer

1 tablespoon grainy mustard

2 bay leaves

3 cloves of garlic, minced

about a teaspoon of caraway seeds (optional)

2 teaspoons of juniper berries (optional)

salt %26amp; pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients in slow cooker, and cook on low for 6-8 hours, or until bubbling and sausage is plumped up.

I sometimes throw in some cooked, crumbled bacon and maybe a small chopped onion too. You can really tinker around with the flavorings to suit your preferences. It's a very comforting dish that I just throw in the slow cooker and go to work, come home and have yummy meaty goodness.
Sausage Smothered in Red Cabbage

INGREDIENTS

1 small head red cabbage, shredded

1 apple, cored and diced

3 teaspoons salt, divided

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 cup water

1 tablespoon butter

1 small onion, chopped

1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

1 tablespoon wine vinegar

1 pound kielbasa sausage, cut into 1 inch pieces

DIRECTIONS

Place the cabbage in a large kettle, and add the diced apple, 2 teaspoons of the salt, lemon juice, and 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil then simmer, covered, about 15 minutes stirring occasionally.

In hot butter, saute the onion until golden. Add the onion to the cabbage along with 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, vinegar and sausage. Cook, covered, 20 to 30 minutes until sausage is heated through. To serve, spoon the cabbage onto a heated platter, topping it with the sausage.
Boil cabbage with sliced onions, cubed apples and chunks of sausage. Sprinkle with few caraway seeds.. Enjoy
