CABBAGE ROLLS

(Golubtsy)

1 head cabbage (medium size)

1 1/2 lb. ground chuck

3/4 c. rice, parboiled

3 or 4 strips bacon

salt and pepper to taste

Scald cabbage in boiling water for about 5 minutes. Cut core so that leaves may be easily removed. Trim off the thick center core from each cabbage leaf to make it easy to roll.

Line bottom of pot with a few cabbage leaves to prevent cabbage rolls from scorching.

Mix together meat, rice, eggs, onion,

garlic, salt and pepper. Place about 3 tablespoons meat mixture on cabbage leaf, fold in the sides and roll ends over meat securely. Place cabbage rolls in pot. Add the V-8 juice

pour over the cabbage rolls. Place bacon strips on top and cover. Put pot on top of range; bring

You can make cole slaw by cutting your cabbage into small strips or grating it. Mix it with some salt and a little sugar. Then add some mayo and a little vinegar. You can find a recipe with the exact ingredients and amounts, but that is an idea.

You can cook cabbage if you like it. I cut it into quarters or eighths. I add a little salt, pepper, and water. Bring it to a boil, cover and let it cook slowly until tender. Do not overcook it, as it doesn't taste as good.

You can also fix cabbage rolls. You take the cabbage leaves and mix hamburger, rice and tomato sauce together and roll in the leaves then cook them.

I also use sliced cabbage in stir fry recipes and also in vegetable soup.

1 cup cooked crumbled bacon (optional)

Combine cabbage, apples, red wine vinegar, sugar, cloves and pepper flakes if using, in slow cooker.

Cover and cook on High 6 hours.

stirring after 3 hours.

Sprinkle with bacon, if desired.

I could probably eat a whole head of cabbage raw every day, I love it so much! You could make use it to make soup or cabbage rolls, which are basically cabbage, tomato sauce and ground beef wrapped up in the leaves. I personally like to fry it up with sliced potatoes and sausage for an easy and cheap one-dish meal.
I love it boiled and then seasoned. I also fry it until soft with Italian sausage and lots of oregano or cook it in a pot with a piece of ham and just before its done I add potatoes. The water becomes a flavorful broth. Just always use plenty of your favorite spices. Its good!
You can make some slaw (onlyuse about 1/4 of the head of cabbage or you will be eating slaw for weeks if it is just you 2), saute with potatoes, or my favorite way to eat cabbage is boiled-then drained and topped with butter and salt.
It taste great fried! I like to fry it with onions and eat it with ham! You can buy a canned ham, cook it, and serve the fried cabbage with it.. it's good.
Simple Chinese cabbage, actually. I think this is an example http://schneiderchen.de/102Stir-fried-Ch鈥?/a>

(though I've never had it with bacon) Really simple but subtle; kind of heartwarming.
